Household App

I made this app to help keep track of everything that needs to be done around the house on a regular basis. For us, this mostly means keeping track of chores being done and keeping up to date on pet care. In addition to teenage kids, we have a cat that has kidney disease and food allergies, so we have been well motivated to keep detailed records.

Over the years we've tried a number of things to keep track of everything. For the kids, we had some success tracking chores using our banking app, which has the ability to assign allowances and chores. But there were some definite downsides we needed to work around. This app gives us an easier way to keep track of chores, without enabling kids to secretly submit chores they didn't do.

Pet care has been an even bigger concern. Managing feeding and medication schedules for two cats with very different medical needs requires detailed tracking. We originally tracked this using a whiteboard on our fridge, and eventually had some custom-made. The difficulty was in making sure everything was actually up to date. Was the last meal actually served today, or did someone forget to erase it yesterday? That kind of thing.

Automating that process makes everything a lot easier, and ensures that the information is always up to date. On the back-end, the app already keeps a historical record of all feedings and treatments, etc. I plan to soon add a feature where the app can email you a pet care history on request.
